I went on a flipping-fast-but-super-fun trip to Seattle this week. I was invited to speak at the Northwest Horticultural Society's Wednesday evening lecture series where I presented: Honing in on the Best Plants for Your Garden.
I rode the train up that morning (a wonderful way to travel between Portland and Seattle), was met at the station by one of my gracious hosts, Jason Jorgensen of Third Spring Landscape Design. Jason was kind enough to take me around to a few gardens before the evening's event. We visited the Bellevue Botanical Garden (see video below), his home garden, and then we met up with Joe Abken at the Kruckeberg Botanical Garden, where Joe serves as the director. Joe was to be my custodian for the balance of the evening and after a lovely dinner with Sue Goetz, we headed to the event.
The next morning, after touring Joe's delightful garden at home, we headed to the Elisabeth C. Miller Botanical Garden (see video below). We had a lovely visit that included a personal tour with Holly Zipp (the head gardener) and a nice chat with Rick Peterson and Richie Steffen while we warmed ourselves up with hot coffee and treats after our tour. Thank you all for making me feel so welcome!
Jason and Joe's gardens were both wonderful as well, and I'll post photos of those very soon.
