Diplacus 'Pamela'

Monkeyflower

Mimulus 'Pamela'

Semi-evergreen Perennial

Mimulus 'Pamela'—also listed as Diplacus 'Pamela'—is a compact monkeyflower hybrid with pale golden-yellow flowers edged in white. Trumpet-shaped blooms appear most abundantly from mid-spring through early summer, with sporadic flowering continuing through the season. At 1–2 feet tall and 2 feet wide, it's well-proportioned for containers or the front of a border where the floral display can do its work up close.

It wants what most monkeyflowers want: good drainage, lean soil, and restraint with the hose once established. Full sun on the coast, light shade inland—especially away from hot afternoon sun. Pinching stems early in the season helps build a denser framework to carry the bloom load. Grown dry, it may go summer dormant; pruning back after peak bloom either way keeps the plant compact and tidy. Deer resistant and a reliable draw for hummingbirds and bees.
