Foliage Tapestry for Food, Flower, and Fun

This plant combination, with its emphasis on foliage looks fantastic year-round. However, it's not static at all. From spring to fall there's a parade of interesting and fun developments—fresh emerging foliage, decorative flowers, and edible greens.

The overall scene includes an exciting variety in foliage texture, color, and size. From late spring into summer, the zippy red blooms of Crimson Kisses weigela are a perfect echo for Heuchera 'Fire Alarm'. A ground-hugging mat of evergreen foliage dotted with white flowers in summer, complements the bright white foliage of Angel Wings senecio. I always leave a bit of room for annual foliage in my garden beds. In this case, I've used decorative edible foliage of the Kale. Other possibilities include basil, lettuce, parsley, and more!
