Bold Foliage and Richly Colored Blooms

Bold, exotic foliage coupled with richly colored blooms of deep red and lively magenta lend a decidedly tropical mood to this planting combination. Because of a heavy reliance on foliage as well as flower, this combo looks good for a very long period. The bold, burgundy foliage of the red form of Canna musifolia and the earliest bloomer of the bunch, Eggplant Ecstasy daylily, set the tone but are joined shortly thereafter by deep magenta spires of Persicaria 'Firetail'. Though it holds down the ground plane year-round, the evergreen Sesleria autumnalis ups its game late summer into fall with its display of tawny spikes.
