Tsuga canadensis 'MonJers' Golden Duke

Golden Duke® Eastern Hemlock

Evergreen Conifer, Shrub

This finely-textured conifer features striking golden evergreen foliage, which is especially vibrant in spring when new growth emerges. It has a similar appearance in the garden to Tsuga canadensis 'Golden Duchess' but tends to grow more upright and vertical. It pairs beautifully with large-leaf plants such as oakleaf hydrangea or Schefflera delavayi, making an excellent foundation for an evergreen screen or backdrop. For added interest, complement this pairing with a small deciduous tree having dark foliage, like Acer palmatum 'Fireglow', to create a layered canopy. Along the front, plant a carpet of complementary perennials such as hostas and hardy geraniums to complete the composition. Be sure to protect the golden foliage from hot afternoon sun, as it is susceptible to burning.
