Helleborus x glandorfensis Ice N' Roses White

Lenten Rose, Ice N' Roses White Gold® Series Hellebore

Helleborus 'COSEH 4500'

Evergreen Perennial

Helleborus × glandorfensis Ice N' Roses White is one of the tougher, more garden-reliable hellebores on the market—a hybrid bred specifically for upward-facing flowers, good foliage, and better garden performance than the older Helleborus × hybridus selections it has largely replaced on nursery benches.

The Ice N' Roses line has been turning out some strong performers, this one included. See also Ice N' Roses Red and others in the series.

The flowers are creamy white, held facing outward rather than nodding, which is the whole point of this breeding line—you actually get to see them without kneeling in the mud. The trade-off for that consistency is some loss of flower complexity: the extraordinary range of faces, markings, and picotee edges you find in older Helleborus × hybridus selections and the Winter Jewels collection isn't here. If flower character is the priority, those are worth exploring alongside this one.

They appear in late winter and carry through early spring—sometimes weeks of bloom if the weather cooperates—and the evergreen foliage holds through the rest of the year as a tidy, leathery-textured mound. Mature size lands in the 15–18 inch tall by 12–24 inch wide range, which makes it a natural front-of-border plant.

Hardy in Zones 6–9. Deer and rabbit resistant. Low maintenance once established—cut old foliage to the ground in late winter before new growth and flower buds emerge, and you're done.
