Cercidiphyllum japonicum 'Morioka Weeping'

weeping katsura

Deciduous Tree

"Outstanding Qualities
One of the most graceful of all weeping trees, ‘Morioka Weeping’ has a strong upright trunk with broad arching side branches clothed in pendulous twigs creating an elegant cascading form. Over time this medium sized tree will becomes a thing of great beauty and sculptural elegance. The new spring leaves emerge with a reddish-purple cast and quickly take on a lovely blue-green color through the summer. In fall the foliage will turn a bright butter yellow with orange and apricot tones. The fallen leaves have the wonderful fragrance of strawberries and cotton candy.

Culture Notes
Weeping katsura grows best in rich well-drained soil. Fall color and growth is best in full sun to open or light shade. It appreciates regular summer watering during dry spells, especially if the tree is in full sun or less than ideal soils. In areas with hot summers it is better grown with protection from the hot afternoon sun."
