Though the tough and easy-to-grow ground-covering Veronica p. 'Georgia Blue' starts blooming in early spring, this plant combination really comes into its own in high summer when the hydrangea adds floral fun to this otherwise foliage-driven scene. Acer palmatum 'Seiryu' is a late-season stunner with its top-shelf display of fall color. A matrix of ground-hugging evergreen plants add a carpet of color from foliage and flower. The narrow columnar shrub is evergreen and thanks to its narrow footprint, is especially useful for creating a screen or division of space in small gardens.
