Plant Combination for Shade

The white variegated foliage of Acer palmatum ‘Ukigumo’, commonly called the floating cloud maple, is a wonderful small tree that will bring light to a shady spot. Hardy fuchsias are colorful, easy-care perennials that flower over an incredibly long season. The color echo between the Fuchsia ‘Fuchsiade 88’ and Heuchera ‘Amethyst Myst’ is zippy and fun. On the ground plane, the juxtaposition of fine versus bold is the main attraction. Feathery fern fronds and the uncommonly large leaves of Bergenia ciliata ‘Dumbo’ provide a nice contrast of plant form and foliage shape in shades of green.
