A showy new variety with large, fragrant bright red magnolia-like blooms.Take full advantage of the glossy foliage and sweet apple-like scent by planting near an entry or outdoor living space. This new Calycanthus was developed through a breeding program at North Carolina State University,Mountain Horticultural Crops Research Station, Mills River, North Carolina. 'Aphrodite' is an F.sub.1 hybrid between Calycanthus chinensis and Calycanthus occidentalis.
