Cool, Fresh, Minty Green Plant Combo

The pairing of lush, deep green with the brighter silver and white foliage results in an overall fresh and cool ambiance in this planting combination. Though this vignette is predominantly about foliage, it's not devoid of bloom. In spring, bells of blue to pink blooms will precede the silver foliage of Pulmonaria 'Cotton Cool' and the crisp white blooms of Natchez mock orange will perfume the air. The evergreen structure in this combo consists of the rounded form of the dwarf conifer, Tsuga canadensis 'Moon Frost' and the finely-textured, ground-covering grass, Carex conica 'Snowline'. The showy, exotic discs of Podophyllum can burn when exposed to hot afternoon sun, so site it accordingly. This plant combo is quite deer-resistant, though gardeners report mixed experience with the Canadian hemlock in respect to deer damage. Give it a shot, watch for damage, and adjust accordingly.
