Plants that Look Great Frosted with Snow

A rare snow day in Portland provided an opportunity to catch a few plants in the act of being awesome in winter. Enjoy the show!

The striking orange stems of this hedge of Cornus 'Midwinter Flame' is especially effective when backed by evergreen trees like these Italian cypress (Cupressus sempervirens).

Cotoneaster bejeweled with red berries.

Crape myrtle (lagerstroemia) showing off its creamy smooth bark.

Edgeworthia chrysantha (mid ground) will be adorned with soft yellow, fragrant blooms later this winter. Towards the back, the yellow foliage of the Mexican orange (Choisya ternata 'Sundance') is a bright and cheery spot of color.

Windmill palm (Trachycarpus fortunei) fans dusted with snow.

Delicate and fine foliage of Pine (Pinus strobus).
