Like it or not, it seems these periods of high heat are the new normal and in Portland, we've been experiencing above average temps for weeks. As we work to adapt ourselves and our gardens to these challenging conditions, having a palette of plants to draw upon that will take the heat in stride is essential.
Below, you'll find a collection of plants (first section) and combinations (bottom section) that will survive and thrive in the intense summer sun with limited water, and look good doing it. These are just a sampling—you can find even more ideas by searching plants or combos on eGardenGo to find others that can withstand reflected heat and full sun.
Pick a PLANT and add to it
Though all plants need some extra TLC as they're getting established, once these settle in, they'll bask in the heat and perform well in a low-water situation. A tip for getting started: pick a plant from those below that you'd like to work around, then click though to its detail page to get plant combo ideas that include it.
