Included here are some of my favorite photos of winter scenes captured here at Bloomtown, my home garden, over the last couple of weeks. Typical winter weather is comparatively mild here in NE Portland – we usually get a skiff, sometimes more, of snow each year and the periodic ice storm. Below you'll find a couple of overall scenes from my garden showing some of my trees and shrubs bending under the weight of ice and snow. Love the snow, hate the ice. The ice, though beautiful, wreaks horrendous damage on gardens, trees and homes. I'm fortunate, as most seem to be bouncing back and don't appear to have sustained severe, lasting damage. ..

Unless you’re a heckuva lot tougher than me, working outdoors during this time of year has less appeal. However, the snow, ice and inclement weather of the season has a silver lining. Tucked away indoors, insulated from the perpetual pull of garden tasks, I'm free to indulge in guilt-free garden dreaming. It’s a perfect time to settle-in and cozy-up, to revel in the current year's successes, mull over trouble spots, and set my sights on planning for next year's garden. ..

What a month to participate in my first Garden Bloggers Bloom Day, a blogging tradition started by May Dream Gardens! I'll only have few photos to contribute this month, as blooms are pretty spare out in my garden at the moment. Even just a week and half ago my offerings would have been much, much different as we've had a very mild launch into the winter season with temps well above normal so I had quite a few late summer blooms hanging-in here and there. ..
